The current M1 Concourse site was acquired in 2014. However, its automotive roots date back over a century. Originally established as the Rapid Motor Company in 1905, it later became home to the General Motors Truck Company, which operated there until 2008.
Today, M1 Concourse is the ultimate destination for automotive enthusiasts. Located on historic Woodward Avenue—just 30 minutes from Detroit and 45 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport—our 87-acre campus offers easy access from all Detroit suburbs. It's Michigan’s premier motorsports and entertainment venue.

The #17 Tide Chevrolet represents the bold fusion of 1980s NASCAR performance and mainstream American brand marketing, pairing Hendrick Motorsports’ engineering excellence with Tide’s unmistakable visual identity. Driven by Darrell Waltrip from 1987 to 1990, the “Tide Ride” became one of the most recognizable cars in racing history, highlighted by Waltrip’s victory in the 1989 Daytona 500—his first and only win in the Great American Race. Its fluorescent orange-and-yellow livery transformed the #17 into a cultural icon, symbolizing the era when stock car racing became a national spectacle and corporate branding met competitive success on the sport’s biggest stage.

He also won the 1995 Portland Grand Prix in this car. It is on loan this weekend to the American Speed Festival by famed racing team owner, Roger Penske.

The last supercharged V8 Novi to compete at Indianapolis, this legendary, 4-wheel drive Indy car, raced by Bobby Unser and owned and sponsored by STP empresario, Andy Granatelli, is the final design iteration of the namesake Michigan city in which it was born in 1941.
